Immediately following our visit to Drakes Brewery in San Leandro, we traveled north past Oakland and into downtown Berkeley, where we had an appointment at Triple Rock Brewery and Alehouse. Did you know that Triple Rock is the oldest, continuously owned brewpub in the U.S. ? Two brothers–Reid and John Martin–opened Triple Rock back in 1986, and have been brewing great craft beer ever since. They are considered an icon in the downtown Berkeley social scene. The vibe in here was so laid back and comfortable. Jesse, the manager, opened my eyes to the IPAX Pale Ale, their Flagship beer. This West Coast IPA starts with a huge floral and citrus hop aroma. I was very hoppy to sample it.
This pic shows the laid back atmosphere and diversity of the patrons. Everyone is welcome at Triple Rock, and it’s not just a saying—it can be really observed here.
This is a pic of Jesse, the very outgoing and personable manager at Triple Rock, pouring me a pint of IPAX Pale Ale, their Flagship brew.
The Triple Rock sign outside the door is not ostentatious, on the contrary, it conveys an almost “dive bar” feel, but with it’s own unique character.
